Funeral Arrangements for DE 1's Bill Truitt
by Robert Freeman on 04/13/17
Everyone,
Terri called us again last evening to let us know how she is doing, as well as
give us an update on services as they are at that time.
The viewing and funeral services will both be at Spicer Mullikan Funeral Home,
located at 1000 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, Delaware, 19720. The viewing
will be on Tuesday evening, April 18th, from 1800 to 2000 hours. The funeral
service will be the following morning, Wednesday, April 19th at 1130 hours.
Terri has asked that any Blue Knights in attendance wear their Blue Knight
colors and, if they so desire, arrive on their bikes. Uniform for the day will
be a white shirt, black or dark tie, black jeans/trousers, and Blue Knight
vest.
John Barnett has suggested that those attending from the south who would like
to ride north with him on Tuesday or Wednesday, please contact him either via
email sportsman2114@gmail.com or
via cell 302-275-0234 as soon as you can. By Monday evening, John will then
send out an email to those who have contacted him advising of meeting and
departure locations for those coming north from Kent and Sussex County.
John also made a good suggestion on everyone meeting for both the viewing and
funeral services at the Farmers' Market, located on Routes 13 and 273 (Hares
Corner) in New Castle, DE. As some of you will know, this includes a very large
parking lot which is empty except over the weekend. From that location,
everyone can easily pull into the lot, as well as we can get everyone out
easily also. The funeral home is only about another mile north on Rt 13 from
the Farmers' Market.
Currently the weather forecast for Tuesday is sunny with a high of 63 and a low
of 45 overnight. Wednesday is partly cloudy with a high of 62, with showers
forecast for late evening on that day.
After all of the details for the services and parking and such are finalized,
which should be by close of business this coming Friday April 14th, I will send
another email out to everyone by Saturday night with final arrangements and
times. If you are unable to attend and desire to send a card to the family,
Terri's home address is 45 Neptune Drive, Frankford, Delaware, 19945
In closing about Bill, some of you have only had the privilege of knowing him
for a short time. On the other hand, I met Bill and Terri in 1987 through Gail
as she and Terri were working together at that time. During their conversations
at work, Gail learned from Terri that Bill's father had been a Wilmington,
Delaware police officer. We then learned that Bill's father, Willard E. Pruitt,
Jr, who was assigned a motorcycle in the Traffic Division, died on Friday July
7th during a police pursuit. With that found, Bill and I met and he began
riding with our chapter as a guest as we did not have any openings for a
Honorary member at the time. Bill then became an official Honorary member with
our chapter in 1995 and has held that position since that time. I can say
without question that Bill was one of the proudest persons I know to be a
member of the Blue Knights organization. He showed this by always being one of
the first to volunteer to help out with anything and is known nationwide due to
his attending Blue Knight International conventions since the mid 90's through
the present, as well as Mason Dixon Blue Knight Conference meetings and all
other Blue Knight chapter rides along the east coast.
Again, I will send out final arrangements by Saturday night regarding meeting
locations and such. In the interim, please keep Bill, Terri, their two
daughters Lori and Nicole, their husbands and children, in your thoughts and
prayers.
Mike
